Project No. 1
SOURCES OF DRINKING WATER
Villagers – primarily women and girls – go to the nearby forest to get water. Pets usually drink even in the same water sources. During the rains, debris and waste of all kinds that litter the ground around the villages are evacuated and dragged into the same water sources that are polluted even during the rains, due to the makeshift toilets built behind the huts.
Water is a source of life. Unfortunately, in this region water can become the enemy of life because the population that drinks this polluted water is exposed to many diseases of water origin, even death. These are diseases such as amoebiasis, diarrhea, typhoid fever, etc.
In the absence of chemical water treatment or drilling to draw drinking water from groundwater, this project aims to develop water sources to save the population from various diseases and thus save many lives.
That is why it is urgent to help this population to meet the primary need for drinking water in a safe and clean environment. And it is also a contribution to the peace of these communities, preventing the lack or mismanagement of water from becoming a source of conflict (cf. Pope Francis, Encyclical Laudato Si', n. 31; cfr. Goal 6 of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development).
